Work
began in 2009 on the $55.6 million New Crystal Springs Bypass Tunnel, a
joint venture between Balfour Beatty Infrastructure, Inc. and M.L.
Shank Co. for the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission.
The
project called for the drilling of a 4,200-foot tunnel that is 11 feet
in diameter. The tunnel, which has a welded steel liner, is
designed to accommodate a pipeline that carries drinking water to
residents of San Francisco and the Bay Area's Peninsula region.
